Brett and Jett

Summer
The sun is hot and the sky is blue.
Standing in the shade are the horses Pete, Smokey and Lou.
A new horse arrives. His name is Brett.
He is reddish orange like a sunset.
He’s not 20 years old, yet.
The other horse’s look up and fret. They don’t like new guests.
Brett walks over to join them, but they turn away.
Now, Brett is sad and gray.
Fall
The leaves have started to turn and the air has cooled.
Standing close and munching on grass are Pete, Smokey and Lou.
Brett stands alone. He still yearns for a friend.
Today, a new horse arrives. His name is Jett.
Jett is black all over and he isn’t 25 years old, yet.
Jett is released and stands facing east.
Brett walks up and nudges, “Hello.”
Jett moves closer and nickers, “Hi” with a heavy sigh.
They stand together under the clear blue sky.
Winter
The skies are grey and the air has turned cold.
The barn is quiet and covered in white snow.
The horses must stay inside. There’s no other way.
Each horse has their own stall with warm wood shavings for them to lay.
Each stall has a blue bucket of water and two bales of fresh green hay.
The horses spend their time waiting for a sunny spring day.
Brett neighs to Jett, “Are you okay?” Jett whinny’s back,
“Yeah, but I sure wish we could go outside and play.”
Spring
The sun is often shining. The air is warm and fine.
The tulips and daffodils have arrived.
The sweet green grass has popped, too.
Again, standing close and nibbling anew are the horses Pete, Smokey and Lou.
While chewing, they watch Brett and Jett trotting around and having fun.
Just then, Brett and Jett stop to eat a mound of clover, they found.
Now, they are now friends forever bound.
